Today is nearly 2 years since Rita passed…
I just started thinking of Rita today and wondered how she was doing these days. I am so saddened to learn of her passing.
I knew Rita when I was a child growing up in Berwyn on 28th and Highland Ave. She lived a couple doors down and instantly welcomed me into her home when she learned of my love of dogs! I became very close with Licorice and Rita during that time in my life.
When Rita moved to Brookfield, my dad would drive me over to her house once in awhile to see her and spend time with Licorice. Eventually, we lost touch as I got older and life got hectic.
It makes me sad to think we will never get to speak again and I was never able to thank her for always being so kind to me and welcoming me into her home during a very difficult time in my life.
May she always be remembered fondly and may she Rest In Peace.

I miss Ritas smile and laugh everyday. She was such a caring friend. She would give me family recipes to make for her. She encouraged me on my culinary path. She was a part of my family. Though she couldnt attend, we shared family dinners with her and visited her often. She will be missed. Love you Rita.

Rita is my sister, 6 years younger than me and I can recall showing her off in a buggy when she was a baby . She had the cutest curly hair framing her little face. Rita Marie Saunders was 65 when she left us on March 31, 2020 at 10:20 a.m. Rita was a victim of the Coronavirus where she resided at Westchester Nursing Home. She passed at Elmhurst Hospital after admitted on March 23, 2020. Rita was the baby of the Walsh family. Her brother James was 8 years older, Eileen 6 years older, and Thomas was 2 years older. Rita had gorgeous thick, naturally wavy brown hair and brown eyes with lovely thin, piano fingers and strong, long nails. She was quite the athletic and sports lady of the family. She excelled in bowling, tennis, swimming, volley ball and was a great Poker card player (she had a poker face). She was also a good Mahjong player as well as a variety of crafts which she loved. Her job background was Accounting and she moved up to be a Manager who was well liked. Rita was a People person and had lots of friends. She helped one of her best friends after double knee surgery allowing her to stay at her home while she cared for her. She was a Tupperware dealer and had her Guest room filled with her beloved Tupperware, just in case.. She was a dog lover and had the following dogs, Freckles, a Schnauzer, Seymour, a Shepherd mix, Licorice a Rottweiler and a boxer, Sadie. She enjoyed volunteering and did so at the American Cancer Society Walk and Roll annual event collecting money for this society for many years, 2004 onward through 2010 and perhaps longer. She held/cuddled cocaine babies at the University Of IL hospital on weekends. Rita certainly had some favorites, like Baskin Robbins Jamoca Almond Fudge ice cream as well as homemade Polish wedding cookies, pecan pound cake and brownies just to mention a few of Mary Jos wonderful baking. Rita made the best stuffed cabbage and was happy to share them with friends. Rita had several godchildren who she entertained at her home and loved being with them. We have had so many wonderful times together, too many to name. I love you so much and I will always MISS you little sister.

I worked with Rita years ago at Swift Independent Packing Co in Chicago. She was such a fun person to be with and always willing to help her fellow employees. Prayers for all that she left behind.

Though I never met my Great- Aunt Marge, I see her in family photos and always marveled how much Rita and she look alike. So saddened to learn of her passing yet relieved that her illnesses and suffering are over. Love to the Walshes!
