Rosemarie Wagner, nee Smetana, former owner of Wagner’s Lounge in Berwyn. Born in Chicago in 1924, Rose lived in Berwyn. Graduating from St. Odilo’s grammar school in 1938 and St. Mary’s High School in Chicago in 1942. After graduation she worked as a switchboard operator for Illinois Bell Telephone. Rose married Jim Wagner at his parents’ home in 1948. They enjoyed spending their summers up at Torch Lake in Michigan. The two of them owned Berside Petroleum on 26th and Harlem in Riverside. With homes being converted from oil heat to gas, Rose and Jim sold Berside Petroleum in 1968 and purchased Wagner’s Lounge in Berwyn. In 1987, their daughter Randi took over the business upon their retirement and the business is still in operation today. They moved in with their daughter Debbie in LaGrange Park. Jim passed in 1993. Rose was an avid bowler. She enjoyed her Thursday afternoons with her T.A.L.K. league at the Berwyn Rec for over 30 years. She also enjoyed good books, gardening and spending time with her beloved dogs Elle and Cody. Visitation Monday, July 12th 3:00pm-9:00pm at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home, 2447 S. DesPlaines Avenue, North Riverside. Funeral Tuesday, July 13th, 10:00 Chapel Service at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
