A true gentlemen. I last visited Laddie in July if 2011 when I went to visit my mom for the last time before she passed away the following spring. I took my granddaughter because its not every day you get to meet a Silver Star recipient. We talked for over an hour about the neighborhood and the good old days. I remember when I was a kid he took us all down to the Chicago Sun Times where he worked and gave us a tour. Then he told us some war stores and showed us the German 9mm bullet that embedded in a piece of metal in his helmet instead of potentially killing him. On almost any evening you could find Laddie sitting in a lawn chair in his driveway visiting with the neighbors. 103 is an incredible legacy, Rest in peace my friend.

Dear Sandy, Kirk and families, I just saw this obituary and wish I had found out at the time, I would have loved to pay my respects to this wonderful man. I grew up kiddie corner from Lad and Jo and they were so sweet and funny. I will never forget them. I invited Lad and his next door neighbor Fran Cvetezar to my Moms memorial luncheon April of 2012 and have pictures of them from that day. I used to stop by and visit him. He was such an interesting person. My Brother is a Marine and I took him there to see Lads medals and the bullet he carried on his key chain that went around his helmet in WWII. For many years, Lad, Fran and a few other neighbors would be sitting out front when I went to visit my Mom in the nice weather. Everyone would just stop by and say hi. Lots of laughter! His was a life well lived. RIP dear neighbor and friend. Sandy, I still have the card you sent me when my Mom died, but not your address. If you would like to contact me or get the picture I have of your Dad, my email is deesantucci@comcast.net
